An interactive light art installation on the facade of Kyiv’s Central Railway Station, created for the winter solstice on December 21.

Anyone could choose their own color and leave a trail of light at the country’s main station—as a symbol of support, resilience, and moving forward.

Because even in the darkest times, we can amplify the light in one another

The installation was on display from December 21 to 25—from the winter solstice to Christmas—on the facade of Kyiv Central Railway Station, one of the country’s most iconic and bustling locations.

The technical solution was based on a proprietary system of custom glass filters, a laser, and a moving mechanism, inspired by natural light refraction effects. Specially developed software controlled the movement of light in real time, creating a new, unique combination of refractions on the station’s facade each time. This process is dynamic by nature—it cannot be replicated twice, just as it is impossible to repeat any of the human stories that intersect daily at the station.

Interactivity was a key part of the project. Next to the installation stood an informational lightbox with a QR code that led to a special website. There, anyone could learn more about the project, choose their own color, and literally leave their own mark of light on the facade of the country’s main train station. Thus, a private gesture became part of something bigger—a shared canvas of light created by the hands of Ukrainians themselves.

Inside the station, the experience continued with a holographic art installation that expanded the project’s concept for everyone passing through the station—even those who hadn’t seen the facade from the outside.
