LIGHT AS A TOOL FOR RECOVERY: THERAPEUTIC GARDEN AT VDNH

It is a great honour, responsibility and joy for us to be part of a new, extremely important and relevant project in Kyiv — a barrier-free public space for the recovery and sensory relief of veterans, female veterans and guests of VDNH, which will carry the spirit of dignity and respect for the people who stood up to defend our country.

The Therapeutic Garden project is being implemented by VDNH together with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs as part of the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Space in Ukraine, initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska and with the active participation of advisor Tetyana Lomakina, the President of Ukraine's representative on accessibility issues. The Therapeutic Garden for VDNH is being designed by the urban bureau Big City Lab in partnership with the architectural bureau PUPA.
The project is also being implemented with the support of Visa, PrivatBank, Work UA headed by Artur Mikhno, and we, the Expolight team, are delighted to be involved as an official partner and author of the lighting concept, as well as to provide financial support for the entire lighting unit.

This project has a bright mission — to create a public space that helps restore physical, psychological, and social health through interaction with nature, the body, and creativity.

We deliberately chose soft natural spectrums, similar to the rays of the setting sun, which are most conducive to emotional and physiological calm. This is a very finely tuned play of light and shadows from trees, creating depth and multidimensionality through the use of various custom luminaires on poles, as well as underground luminaires with special diodes selected according to key parameters, with the possibility of reconfiguration.

We believe that such spaces should appear in every city. And we, in turn, will make every effort to support this initiative with light, warmth, and care, and will do everything possible to make such places of healing the norm for Ukrainian communities.
