Crosses, monuments, memorial plaques - unfortunately, commemorating fallen heroes has become the new modernity of Ukrainians. War makes us reflect on painful losses. But how can we honour the fallen heroes with dignity? Can contemporary memorial architecture become a kind of portal between memory and honour? Should it be a place of grief or a place of strength? And what does contemporary memorial architecture look like? And how big is the gap in society's perceptions of what it should be today?
Let's try to address these questions during the event "Kabluka Light & Digital Sculptures: Light Inside. Traditional and new approaches to memorial architecture".
Mykola Kabluka, the founder and art director of Expolight, will speak about the experience of creating a deep philosophy of the memorial, how to express this depth in the architectural language, and how to manage space and emotions with the integration of light and interactive elements into architecture and urban fabric during the presentation of the Heroes' Cross memorial, which was opened in Vyshhorod last month.
Together with other panelists, we will also analyse the difference between traditional and modern approaches to creating memorial architecture.
