About project

We worked on the design together with Nepyvoda Yod Group to update the interior of the central lobby of one of the most famous hotels in Lviv - Grand Hotel.

As a key element, we developed special craft tiles in our glass-blowing laboratory with an interesting technology in terms of the way the blinks appear. First, we made a complex deformed inner surface, which was covered on the inside with a layer that gives heat, and then an amalgam coating on the surface. We made two layers, and a third layer to protect this amalgam coating from damage. We also tinted the glass on the outside.

Due to the fact that the glass elements are opaque, we had to make a very specific illumination not from the inside, as we are all used to, but as a sculpture. That is, we illuminated from the outside at different angles so that there were no glare, using three types of optics: super-narrow, which gives such warm close flashes, medium-angle, which shows volumes, and wide, which ties everything together into a single picture.

All three groups are independently dimmed and balanced into light scenarios for morning, afternoon and evening thanks to our customised Expolight Cloud Control System. The hotel is non-stop, so this chandelier switches to different scenarios automatically four times a day in a smooth, slow transition.
