about project

Architectural lighting for a landmark of early 20th-century Kharkiv Art Nouveau, in collaboration with the Alter Development restoration team. The lighting highlighted the texture of the facade, the stucco relief, and the window openings—and restored the building’s prominence in the city’s nighttime skyline.

Our focus is on the meticulous treatment of the facade. We revealed the building’s texture by creating a gliding light that softly outlines its volume and the transitions between planes. The relief of the stucco moldings is emphasized by directional accents, allowing the architecture to “speak” in the evening city. Key decorative elements are highlighted with individual strokes of light, and the window openings are designed so that the building retains its integrity while gaining depth in the nighttime space.

The project was implemented amid active hostilities—despite daily shelling, Kharkiv retains its dignity, culture, and beauty. The city’s architecture continues to live on, and through our work, we have helped bring this to light. Special thanks to the Alter Development team—for their systematic work on restoring historic buildings and their courage to carry out such projects in wartime.

Through our joint efforts, we have not only brought one of the city’s most beautiful buildings back to life but also given it a new role in Kharkiv’s nighttime landscape. The Rosenfeld House—an architectural gem of Kharkiv’s Art Nouveau—shines once again.
