about project

A-Station is a unique location in Kyiv, a kind of landmark that residents of the capital talk about and which is visited by families and creative young people alike. Historical buildings have been restored and revitalized here: the buildings of the former Arsenal factory, the military commandant's office, and the Mykilskaya Gate. The restored buildings are taking on new functions and modern meanings and are being adapted to contemporary needs.

The former closed industrial area is being transformed into an open, people-friendly public space, and light itself is becoming the instrument of this transformation. Our task is not simply to illuminate the architecture, but to use light to change its perception: from heavy and industrial to lively, open, and multi-layered.

The project has a complex lighting structure with combined luminaires and precise work with the geometry of the facades. We worked out the radial angles and complex planes of the buildings in detail so that the light would not destroy the form, but rather emphasize its character and plasticity. Dosing became fundamentally important: the lighting covers no more than 40% of the facade area, while the rest remains in the shadows. It is the contrast between light and darkness that creates depth, volume, and a sense of architectural drama.

We use soft lighting accents to emphasize the facades of the historic part, which is integrated with the new building through an openwork pergola. The new architecture features media lighting, which adds a modern rhythm and dynamism. In addition to the facades, the interiors and landscaping are carefully lit so that the space functions as a coherent lighting scenario.

The entire system is controlled via an updated version of the Expolight Cloud Control System, which allows for high-precision light control and the creation of complex dynamic modes. We also carefully refine the media content so that the light is not just decoration, but lives in rhythm with the architecture and reinforces its idea. The photos presented already show the intermediate stages of this work.
