The lighting market increasingly requires unique custom solutions. As part of our Expolight Artglass line, we, together with architects, developed and implemented a lighting installation at SOHO restaurant & bar.
Our craftsmen made 1100 glass balls for it with diameters from 90 to 190 mm. Most of the balls are smooth with many small bubbles inside. I had to experiment a lot to achieve the necessary aesthetic qualities. In most cases, the bubbles in the glass are obtained by the soda method, but with this solution, the size and concentration of the bubbles are uncontrollable. We managed to find a way due to which the bubbles in the balls are all the same and in the right amount.
Some of the balls in which the light sources are located are caustic, i.e. giving characteristic beautiful light effects from the refraction of rays. I had to work hard and analyze a lot of intermediate results to achieve the desired caustics - in traditional technology this effect is less pronounced.
A floor below is another chandelier about 2 m high made of transparent and white frosted glass balls, which are reflected in the glossy interior.
