WORKSHOP WITH ROGER NARBONi IN DNIPRO

After many months of negotiations, preparation, and careful planning, we met in our studio with Roger Narbonne, a legendary, world-renowned lighting designer from France.

Since the 1980s, Roger has developed more than 150 lighting master plans around the world: in France, Italy, China, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Israel, Greece, Morocco, Oman, Switzerland, and other countries.

And now we have developed the concept of a lighting master plan for Dnipro together!

Together with Roger, we organized a rich program, which included a unique closed workshop on developing a Master Plan for lighting and dark infrastructure for the center of Dnipro. The workshop was divided into two blocks:

- for the Expolight team

- for students and teachers

Under the guidance of Mykola Kabluka and Roger Narboni, the participants learned about the methods of lighting masterplanning and the principles of light urbanism, and studied modern approaches to urban and landscape lighting.

The architectural lighting team created lighting concepts that emphasize the character and content of each object, taking into account energy efficiency and aesthetics.

The street lighting team considered the comfort, safety and functionality of lighting for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, and proposed solutions that create clear navigation in the city.

The public space lighting team created concepts for soft, atmospheric lighting for social interaction, leisure and cultural events.

The Dark Infrastructure team developed approaches to balancing light and darkness in the city to avoid light pollution and preserve natural fauna.

This event provided a unique opportunity for professionals and students to deepen their knowledge of urban lighting, as well as to develop real projects to improve city lighting.

There is a huge amount of work ahead, as the development of a lighting strategy and master plan for one city can take from six months to two years. But we have already laid a fairly solid foundation, and with the new knowledge and experience shared by Roger, I believe that after the war is over, we will come to rethink the nightlife of Ukrainian cities!
